Details about the hotel
he Hotel St Clemens is a small family-run hotel in inner-city Visby. Located centrally within the medieval city walls of the old town, the Hotel St Clemens is Gotland's first environmentally labelled hotel. All rooms are non-smoking and have their own shower and toilet. The central location ensures that all of Visby is close at hand. The Botanical Garden is just around the corner. You're close to the sea, the cathedral and the central square. You are also close to the Port of Visby, the commercial district and Visby city centre.
The Hotel St Clemens consists of five historical buildings surrounding two enclosed gardens and right next door to the ruins of the medieval St Clemens Church. The oldest building dates back to the 17th century, while the newest is from the 1920s. Over the years the buildings have housed everything from shoemakers and tinsmiths to beauty salons and shops, as well as flats and offices. In the 1980s they were converted into a hotel. Nearly every square metre of the buildings is now used for hotel rooms, but the task of renovating and maintaining the property and the rooms is ongoing.
Are rooms are all different sizes and shapes. The eccentricities of the old buildings define the personal design of each room. All rooms are non-smoking, with their own shower, toilet, TV and wireless Internet. The rooms are joined by two gardens, and many have private entrances. The three-star hotel offers wireless Internet, breakfast and daily cleaning with every room.
The Hotel St Clemens is located in the inner city of Visby, inside the city walls and right across from the cathedral and the Botanical Garden. Right next door are the ruins of the medieval St Clemens Church. This quiet, northern section of inner-city Visby is close to the sea, shopping, restaurants, museums and all the sights of the medieval city centre.
Just 350 metres away, the central square – Stora Torget – offers a wide array of top-notch restaurants year-round. Just ask at the reception desk for tips on the best places. The biggest nightclubs in Visby are also on the central square.
The family business
The Hotel St Clemens is run by two generations of von Schulmans, Annabritta and Bjerne, their son Carl and his wife Menette. We bought the hotel together in May 2007 and are the third set of owners since the hotel opened in the 1980s. We are grateful for the many regulars who keep coming back to the hotel since we took over. We and our skilled staff do our utmost to keep our guests happy as always. We also launch many new ideas of our own, and renovate a few rooms each year. As of 2009 we are Gotland’s first hotel to bear the environmental Swan label.
The hotel is open year-round except for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Feel free to visit us in autumn, winter or spring, when Gotland is just as beautiful as in the summer – but in a completely different way.
A warm welcome from the von Schulman family and staff!
